Davines Products Your Salon MUST Carry

“By creating beauty sustainably, we encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live & work, of the things they love.” — Davines.

If you haven’t already discovered the wonderful sustainable beauty line, Davines, we hope we’ll convince you to give them a try. The Salon Movement is proud to be a unified grassroots movement of sustainably-conscious Davines stylists and salon owners. Supporting Davines shows that you care about the earth, as well as your customer’s well-being.

Davines was founded, and continue to produce, in Parma, Italy, with development starting in the 1980s and products being ready to sell about a decade later. Davines truly believes in sustainability and is aiming to be the most beautiful and ethical company in the world.

We love every unique Davines product we use, and they truly do have something for everyone. If you’re looking to bring our your natural beauty, here are a few of their best-selling and award-winning products we think you should try:

The Oi Line

Several products in the Oi line have won awards and anyone who has used it has little doubt why. This multi-use line of products is perfect for just about anyone. It has the best ingredients to use on a day-to-day basis, when hair is behaving nicely and has no issues. Roucou oil is the key ingredient in this amazing line to keep hair and skin hydrated and soft.

This Is A Sea Salt Spray

This Is A Sea Salt Spray should be re-named “This is an amazing product!” A best-seller for many reasons, this spray provides amazing texture and style to any hair type and it smells so good!

The sea salt in this spray naturally gives tresses the perfect beachy waves many want to achieve without having to head to the ocean.

Well-Being Conditioner

The Well-Being Conditioner is an excellent all-around moisturizer for hair. Made with echinacea plant, this conditioner contains natural antimicrobial products which works to keep hair healthy and nourished.

Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner

The Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner is THE product to use to put life and moisture back into dry, damaged hair. It invigorates from the scalp right down to the ends of your hair to provide intense moisture and prevent breakage.

Acai oil is the miracle ingredient which provides your hair the protective antioxidants and restorative benefits it needs. Grape phytoceuticals add an extra source of antioxidants as well as polyphenols to keep hair healthy and strong.

If your salon, or personal collection, doesn’t include Davines, that needs to change right now, not only for the sake of beauty but for sustainability.

Davines has some very exciting collections coming out involving coffee, tea and honey. We can’t wait for these products, and to see what other revolutionary, sustainable ideas Davines has for our future.

Davines and Sustainability

Davines and Sustainability

Davines and Sustainability.

davineslovegrow

Davines has been incorporating a sustainability mission in their business practices since 1983. “The family owned company has always been transparent about the natural ingredients they use and how they use them to benefit the world we live in, (source).” The importance of authenticity and environmental awareness is consistent with the brand; they are always finding new fresh ways to be better.

After being established in Parma, Italy in 1983 the Bollatti family sought out to create sustainable, earth-friendly products for a wider consumer base. With their products now being sold in 75 different countries world-wide the high quality and attention to detail is still as apparent as ever. Part of Davines and the Bollatti families’ appeal lies in their desire to be conscious. “They have been working with a number of nonprofit organizations on this mission, the first being the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to alleviate world hunger, combat global warming, strengthen communities, and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water, (source).” This organization works to donate orchards to communities that will benefit for centuries; it is definitely not a quick fix or Band-Aid solution. Davines also donates 10% of the proceeds from their zero-impact products to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation along with “throughout the year, the Davines team heads to impoverished areas—the southwestern U.S., Brazil, Mozambique—to plant fruit trees and help share their support with the communities at large, (source).”

In February 2015 Davines set out to build a relationship with The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity.  This project financially supports more than 10,000 small producers so that they can continue growing indigenous plants to support local agriculture. The packaging has been manufactured using food-grade plastic, so that you can re-use them as containers or planters. Their products are also manufactured using only energy from renewable sources. “For us, sustainability deals with the responsibility we owe to ourselves, the people with which we work, our customers, and the world in which we live and operate, (source).”

The Salon Movement upholds Davines values and truly believes in caring for our planet. Part of our mission is to unite stylists, salon owners and Davines distributors by sharing information and encouraging collaboration. We seek to be an essential outlet that unites like-minded people in a positive way. We are a support system and help to aid others in the worthy switch to sustainable salons and a way of life. Davines truly embraces a sustainability commitment and attempts to combine the business successes with a reduction of environmental impact. By setting a course for spreading awareness and engaging more businesses and individuals a positive impact can be made on the world around us.

What is Sustainably Beautiful?

What is Sustainably Beautiful?

holding plant

You’ve probably heard of sustainability initiatives related to recycling, making eco friendly products, and being a more conscious consumer, but did you know beauty can be sustainable? Yes Sustainably Beautiful is a thing!

Let us first define what sustainably beautiful means to us. This is a new mindset that makes us think long term in product development. “It is actually a combination of imagination and science where we evaluate the long term environmental impact of whatever beauty product we are formulating. Before its production, during its production and its lifecycle once it is released in the environment, (source).” There are 4 large aspects that go into making a product sustainable and all have to be taken into account when formulating and distributing new products.
• ethical sourcing of natural raw materials
• cosmetic production (energy and water consumption, waste management)
• packaging (compostable, biodegradable, recyclable)
• biodegradability of the finished product

These 4 pillars are merely a framework to begin to define sustainable products. Many companies are able to quickly implement one or two but usually larger companies struggle to maintain all four. It’s time we truly start to look at our beauty products as being just as important as the food we put into our bodies. We’ve long ago ditched the heavily processed, chemically laden food but are much slower to transition away from chemical based products. The green beauty market has changed dramatically from “the days of poorly pigmented ‘makeup’ products from your health food store, skincare that smells like a greenhouse, or ‘natural perfume’ of pure patchouli oil in a bottle, (source).” We now have beauty and hair products that are far superior for not only the planet we coincide with but for out bodies as well. Instead of harsh chemical products alternative ingredients are found in nature to get better results.

According to the SBN “Sustainability in the beauty industry has become a hot topic due to a rise in environmental awareness, new global standards, its profitability and consumer demand, (source).”

This movement is not only beneficial from a green perspective but also from a consumer and business standpoint. As a business looking to interest a growing conscious consumer market differentiating yourselves is essential in tapping into that consumer base. Being socially responsible is not only the right thing to do but also benefits business regardless of size. Consumers want to know that you as the business owner really care about the environment and that this care translates over to truly caring for them.

Here at the Salon Movement we embody “A unified grassroots movement of sustainability-conscious Davines stylists and salon owners who actively care and love our planet, culture, and craft.” We truly care and value the importance of education, marketing, environmentalism and retail in implementing green salons. “Loving, kind, considerate, cooperative, balanced, and connected are just a few adjectives to describe a Davines stylist and salon owner when it comes to their commitment to the eco-social organism.” We believe above all that we have a positive role to play into spreading sustainability values and educating others on the benefits of green beauty.
