So you are thinking of joining Green Circle Salons:
We are excited that you are wanting to not only reduce your impact on the environment but also make a financially sustainable decision for your salon by joining Green Circle Salons !!
Some people out there might be wondering if what I just said is a contradiction …
“Save the Planet and make your Salon more money?”
Our answer is “YES”.
Thanks to Green Circle Salons we have been given a eco-friendly destination but how we get there is how we make this a sustainable decision for our salons financial success.
So first off lets give you some background info on Green Circle Salons and then I’ll give you the nuts and bolts of how it all works …
Green Circle Salons is a for-profit industry specific recycling company that you can hire to pick up your salon waste and dispose of it properly and as eco-friendly as possible.
Green Circle Salons also provides lots of training, marketing, and sustainable resources as well as promotion for stylists and salon owners.
They are quickly expanding throughout North America and there are plans for expansion internationally so they are unfortunately not available everywhere but if you want to join they will find a way to include you … they did with us.
We approached Green Circle Salons over 5 years ago when they were only in Toronto and because we were so passionate about the opportunity they expanded quicker then planned to include Vancouver Island and now there is more then 60 member salons on the island !!
So you may be wondering “how does Green Circle Salons get paid” to do this Mother Earth Love?
You pay Green Circle Salons a fee to join and a fee to be placed on their salon finder.
Marketing, resources, support, training and promotion by GCS is complimentary to all its members.
Green Circle Salons charges you $1 for every client that you have per month and you set this up with them at the start for automatic invoicing and then report to them your client increases and decreases from time to time. They recommend that you charge your clients an eco-fee as a cost recovery strategy and a even a bit more to assist with marketting and administering this eco-friendly initiative.
You store your salon waste in the bins they provide and then they pick it up at least once a week.
This is where the fun begins for entrepreneurs and marketing professionals !!
So lets talk marketing as it relates to your eco-fee …
Linear Marketing thinkers will say “Well I think my clients will be upset about increasing the price of their cut by $1”
And they know their clients so there is no arguing with them about that.
Well we are Dynamic Marketing Thinkers and we said …
“How can we get our clients to notice that we charged them extra for their service”?
Answer: “Let’s charge them an extra $2.50 instead”
Well guess what? … It got some peoples attention but surprisingly not nearly enough in our opinion. But I’ll talk more about that …
Ok at this point I hope you are following our logic here and want to know where we are going with this … so let me give you the ingredients of why this strategy affords our salon an opportunity for some extra financial sustainability…
First … if you are an entrepreneur then you understand that every interaction with a client or a potential client is a chance to leverage towards fulfilling your goals. So whatever the reason you want to be a eco-friendly salon … it is a great one !! … but why not further leverage this opportunity to differentiate yourself in the market place and communicate your ethical decision to your clients? Well when you charge them a $2.50 eco fee it has a better chance of getting their attention… All attention is good attention but its how you leverage or spin it that makes the difference. So when they ask or you notify them before their next service you get to tell your story !!
Second … the eco-fee you charge has a direct relationship to what you will be personally accountable towards saying that you are using the money for. At our salon, designHouse Salon on the west-coast of Canada, we actually invest a lot of time and money into our community to make it more sustainable… And we love to talk about it and substantiate it if possible.
The eco fee acts as a vehicle for you not only to be held accountable for your sustainable initiatives by your clients but it also becomes the fuel to fund an opportunity to communicate this very important message to your clients and potential clients.
So I hope you are on the same page by now with us …
- You want your client to notice because it builds loyalty, rapport, and authenticity with your brand.
- You want to leverage this opportunity to pay for sustainable actions in your community.
Ok how are we doing so far?
If you’re marketing and entrepreneurial wheels are turning at this point and you are fully engaged then lets get to another important aspect of this amazing opportunity …
“Your eco fee is a way to fund the purchase sustainable products and resources that help you earn more money and save you money”.
Things like … use your eco-fee revenue to purchase Ecoheads that reduce water use but also increase pressure … saves you money on the water and increases the speed at which you wash the colour out of your clients hair so you can get to the next one quicker or take a much needed health break.
This is only one of many other similar sustainable resources that we can make available to you like professional social media and blog writers to save you time and make you money, salon equipment that is more efficient and sustainable, and communication strategies that will assist you in increasing and retaining clients, etc…
