Over the past few years, Sustainably beautiful trends have made leaps and bounds within our industry. This news is amazing and even more amazing is — wait for it! — it’s predicted that 2018 will be the BEST year yet for beauty done sustainable!
More and more consumers are turning to green beauty products because of special skin and health concerns but that isn’t the only reason. Care for the environment also ranks high among reasons for why people opt to go green. This has resulted in more green brands coming out and some established brands changing their products and practices. Win-win!
Here are a few beauty trends to look forward to this year:
More Variety
Most people think that sustainably beautiful and green products only offer “natural” colours and poorly made formulas but not anymore! Going into 2018, we’ll see a HUGE variety of colours, formulas, and finishes. Almost anything you look for, from makeup to hair care to bath products, will soon be found quite easily.
Cleansing Less
It may seem a bit backwards to some but the trend towards cleansing less is gaining popularity. From the “no ‘poo” hair method to using special sea sponges to cleanse your body instead of soap, product and water use has gone down.
Don’t get us wrong, you don’t need to go to extremes! There’s no need to stop washing your hair altogether or ditching the soap just yet. However, there’s no doubt your hair and skin WILL look better when not over-washed so give it a go.
Environmentally-Happy Packaging
Packaging has become a problem that can’t be ignored. Many companies realize this and are dispensing their products in bulk, or using special recyclable and biodegradable packaging.
DAVINES is a great example of a green hair products company that cares about sustainability. They package their products with the environment in mind.
Unisex Beauty
Often big-name companies repackage their regular formulas with a more “manly” scent and market that towards men. With more natural scents and often scentless products gaining popularity, there is no need for the distinction.
Unisex beauty products allow people to choose the right formula for their skin and/or hair, not their gender.
Green Salons & Spas
The average salon runs through a lot of water in a day and their electrical appliances run at high speed for all their clients. This is NOT good for the environment! Luckily (as you know), we’ve seen quite a few sustainable salons and spas open up over the years and 2018 should be no different.
As green sustainably beautiful products grow in number so will the salons that carry those options. After all, there’s clearly a market for it! Salons can look for more information on going green at Greencircle Salons.
Ayurvedic & Other Alternative Beauty Treatments
Ayurvedic treatments aren’t new but we’re seeing a resurgence this year. Ayurveda treats your individual dosha and other lines of energy while giving you a customizable organic beauty and hair treatment. Products and treatments are not “one size fits all” any longer, the bespoke movement is here!
Watch out world, sustainable beauty now has a HUGE market and ALL salons need to be doing their part!
